977 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Forgotten Wounds
Location: Alexander quarters
Timeline: After the news of Zai’s death (backpost)

The news that Zai had lost his life had come as quite a shock to Lanna, she had come to think of him as a good friend so hearing the news hadn’t been easy. She sat on the floor playing with Jayce while she had the chance to be with him, she wasn’t sure if they’d end up having to send him back off ship once shoreleave was over, so she wasn’t sure if doing her best to cheer herself up and enjoy what time she had with the family.

Jarin had spent some time doing one of the things he enjoyed, exercise. He knew the corridors would be far less active then normal, with it being shore leave. So he decided to take a long jog around several decks of the Arcadia. It got in some great cardio and it helped him learn more about the ships layouts. Which he considered something he should know for medical emergencies. However the thing Jarin enjoyed more than anything else was spending time with his family. “Hey you two” Jarin said with a smile on his face entering the family quarters seeing Lanna and their son playing. He leaned down and kissed his wife’s cheek and got down on the floor to play with Jayce on his level.

“Hey yourself” Lanna grinned. “How went your jog around the ship? Bump into anyone new?”

“It was quiet, which is sometimes pleasant” he took his wife’s hand and looked into her eyes “how are you holding up my love?”

“I’m okay” Lanna offered as she held onto Jarin’s hand. “I just wish I could have said goodbye to Zai, plus Sebastian has lost all trust in me!” She shook her head. “There are times I hate being a Counsellor!”

“I understand, my love” Jarin could sort of understand, he was a physician and on a star ship that often meant working on close colleagues, friends and even loved ones. It was heartbreaking when he couldn’t save them. “Maybe you” he moved over and gave his wife a kiss on the cheek “maybe you just need an evening out. A nice dinner some wine and a sitter for Jayce for a few hours tonight.”

Lanna nodded. “I think that would be nice, just to let my hair down and enjoy a night out with you.”

“I’ll get everything set up” Jarin smiled at his wife and then in a silly voice started talking to Jayce “mommy and daddy are gonna have a date” he was making goofy faces to get the baby to giggle.

Lanna couldn’t help but grin, Jarin was a wonderful father and just as wonderful a husband. “Who are we going to leave Jayce with?”

“Well he has quite the fan base on board” Jarin said with a big smile on his face. There were people on the ship that would stop by to visit but he often wondered if many of them only stopped by to check on his little man. “Who do you have in mind love?”

“I’m not sure to be honest” Lanna shrugged her shoulders. “We do need to check out the onboard nursery and school provision.”

“I’ll have plenty of time tomorrow if you have an opening in your schedule. Maybe we just wait or take him with tonight?”

“I don’t mind either way” Lanna smiled warmly. “All I know is, I’m glad we’re all together.”

“I agree” Jarin said softly. “I’m not sure what I’d do with myself if they would have split us up.

“Well it’s not something we have to worry about anymore” Lanna smiled happily. “Now we just have to hope we don’t end up in any bad situations out there, I know Jayce will be looked after while we’re working but I worry nonetheless.”

“I know my love” he smiled at his wife “but I think he is going to be fine. I’ll say it again this little guy has the hearts of several of the ladies and has made friends with some of the docs and nurses in the medical bay.”

“I know” Lanna nodded. “Much like his father, who’s far too attractive for his own good!” She grinned as she gave Jarin a kiss on the cheek.

Jarin blushed at the comment that his wife had just made and with a smile moved to where he was kissing her lips.

Lanna returned the kiss, letting it linger before moving back. “You always know how to make a long day feel so much better.”

“I do what I can lover” Jarin smiled and gave his wife a flirty smile.

“Now that smile definitely makes my day!” Lanna grinned. “Shall we get some dinner sorted? At least then we can sit down and relax for the rest of the evening.”

“I am pretty hungry” he reached over and tickled their son’s tummy “what do you say big guy ? You hungry?”

Lanna grinned as Jayce giggled. “I’d take that as a yes.”

“I guess our plans of going out either include little man or we stay in” he smiled at his wife “and you have to decide.”

“Me?” Lanna grinned. “In that case let’s stay in and I can enjoy time with just you and Jayce. Then once Jayce is asleep I’ll be able to spend all my time with you.”

“Sounds like a fine idea, Mrs. Alexander” Jarin kissed her forehead and got up “I’ll open a bottle of wine and start some dinner.”

“Wonderful, I’ll get everything tidied up and give you a hand.” Lanna smiled, for now family life was good and there wasn’t anything to interrupt that. She just hoped it stayed that way.
