Mission: Blade of Deceit

ON:

Poe watched as the room materialized again. They had transported in the medical bay, which was supposed to be empty. It was not. There was a rather large, and handsome Klingon there.

His eyes widened as the group materialized. He held up his hands. "I'm friend. My guess is you're here to get Sabastian."

K’Var already had her hand on her side arm, taking a quick glance around the medical bay to assess the tactical situation. The Klingon med bay was nothing like that of the Arcadia and one Klingon wasn’t much trouble but intel suggest there could be close to four hundred and fifty warriors and officers aboard the battle cruiser. She locked her eyes with the Klingon, her hand ready to pull her phaser “that is correct” the Caitian had a hint of confusion to her voice.

Lieutenant Nasir Patel had locked his phaser onto the Klingon. When it came to Klingons, he was not willing to take their words beyond surface value. If this one was friendly, he would have to show it. "Where?" asked Nasir.

Kormoth gave a nod. "He's been taken back to interrogation. Our engineer and XO are working to slow their progress." He motioned to their phasers. "I would set those on the highest setting." He looked around. "We can head them off if we use the medical lift." He pointed to the back. "He needs medical, he's in bad shape."

“Why” K’Var asked as she set her phaser to a high stun and gave a nod to the group to do the same. “Why are you helping us” she asked the much larger Klingon “and who are you?”

"I'm the medical officer here. Half Vulcan and Half..." He motioned about the room. "Savage. I'm tired of being here. Sabastian is my friend and I would give my life to help him. And I'm asking for your help too I wish to seek asylum. I wish to go back to Vulcan that is my true home." He lifted his hair to show his ears. "It was those loyal to the High Council and the XO of this ship that sent that message for you to find he was alive. We have enough people here to help once we leave the ship those who are loyal to Council will battle it out but we have to get Sabastian off this ship. His injuries will kill him." he looked over at the older officer. "I hope you have good medical equipment back on your ship. Warn your Captain there is a second Klingon ship due to arrive shortly they are here to help and take this ship. I am hopeful," He turned to K'Var. "I am hopeful we will get him off this ship before they arrive." He pointed to the wall. "If you will permit I will verify..."

The coms chirped. "Toketh to medical, They have the human in interrogation. It has already started we will require your medical assistance if he is to live. Move down to the security deck, half breed. Be quick about it. If the High Council hears the human is dead we'll all be for failing to extricate him."

Kormoth motioned. "We must hurry."

“Lead the way” K’Var pulled her communicator and relayed the information about the incoming Klingon vessel. “We must make haste” she told her team as they started following the hybrid medical officer. There was whispered chatter and questions from the Federation team that K’Var didn’t have the answer to.

Kormoth grabbed a medical kit. He motioned to the lifts. "That way." He took the lead taking them to the deck where Sabastian was being held. It didn't take long to reach the location and when they did the doors opened to several Klingons, one of which was the XO. "It has taken your ship long enough. Come we must get in there. We cannot wait for the second ship." He looked at the group. "Are all of you battle trained?"

"Out of necessity," replied Lieutenant Patel. He gestured to Doctor MacDonald. "Our ship's Chief Physician would rather be wielding a medical kit, but fought against Klingons. Lieutenant Poe is a scientist. None of us asked for any of this. Your people," said Nasir not caring that he was speaking to a genetic mutt "Your people took one of our own. That is an act of war."

“Well we have a rescue mission to pull off” K’Var held her phaser, ready to use it if the time came. “We are trained and a few of us have seen battle” the Caitian assured the half Vulcan.

He gave a nod. "Set your phasers to the highest setting. It takes a lot to down a Klingon." He looked over at the Doctor. "I share your distaste for violence but in this instance it is necessary."

Since beaming aboard, MacDonald had remained as inconspicuous as possible. One did not trust Klingons, and he was not willing to do so now. Despite the man leading them claiming to be a ‘friend’ of Commander Walker and his apparent distaste for the bloodlust of his crew mates, to trust a Klingon was to invite death. Perhaps he was indeed too old to be out here in this era of a fragile peace.

He had held his tongue when this Kormoth spoke. It was too tempting to explain he had spent many years in field hospitals during the war keeping Starfleet officers alive. He had no intention of letting one die at the hands of the Klingons now.

“There is no distaste when it comes to Klingons,” MacDonald replied coolly. To K’Var he added, “and I would discourage being so quick to follow advice from anyone aboard. Extreme caution Lieutenant. To trust a Klingon, even half a Klingon? You may as well stab yourself in the chest right now! Now let’s find Walker and get the hell out of this place.”

“I understand, Doctor” K’Var was sympathetic to his worries “but we will move slowly and take every precaution we can.”

“Going slowly,” MacDonald sighed, his irritation clear, “will get us killed. Or worse. So be cautious by all means, but be quick.”

“Yes sir” K’Var gave a nod. Her phaser at the ready “with your permission” she asked MacDonald as he was her superior and the lead on the away team.

“By all means,” Oscar nodded, gesturing forward. “Let’s get the commander and get the hell off this ship, shall we?”

“Yes sir” the security chief replied and started toward their target. A rescue mission on a Klingon ship was a rather dangerous away mission. However it was a high priority rescue mission and K’Var refused to leave anyone behind.

Kormoth stopped the group as they neared the turn off point to the brig. The sound of disruptors was loud. "It appears," Kormoth said. "That the XO and Engineer are already starting." He paused. "Fight well my friends." He charged forward and into the fray of fire. His goal was Sabastian. He didn't look at the Fleeters as he knew they could take care of themselves and the XO and Engineer had a good team. His goal was Sabastian who was barely conscious. With a Roar he knocked out one of the guards and barreled forward.

“It appears you are needed, doctor” K’Var looked over at the away team leader “stay behind me and I’ll cover you and we can make it to Lieutenant Commander Walker.” She was responsible for the teams safety but wanted to get the okay from her superior. A disruptor blast hitting the wall just above them as one of the aggressors was taken down by Kormoth or one of the other friendlies.

The battle raged on but the Klingons seemed to be fighting themselves more then the federation. Kormoth's team provided them enough coverage that they were soon on their way down the hall. Kormoth hefted Sabastian over his shoulder as if he was as light as a feather. "This way! If we can get back to sickbay transport can be safe." He looked at K'Var. "My friend I am afraid you must keep the brunt of clearing our way."

“That I can do” K’Var dodged an incoming disruptor blast and pushed the good doctor out of the way of getting hit by another. This time the Federation Security Officer returned fire, two shots of high stun, hitting the attacking Klingon in the chest and abdomen. “I think this is our chance to move” she let off a few more shots from her phaser and started forward back to the extraction point.

Kormoth smiled. "Good phaser control. Better then I could have done."

“I’ve had a little practice” she cleared the right side of the hall but got fired upon from the left. “Go…go…go” K’Var shouted and laid down cover fire, protecting her team, but missing the Klingon that was shooting disruptor rounds at them. K’Var managed to hit the large Klingon target in the shoulder and after a few steps a second shot put him down.

Lieutenant Nasir Patel struck another Klingon that was firing wildly towards K'Var. "Sometimes, I think they chose to put us in red to make us easier targets" he muttered. "I hate to be the bearer of worse news, but we really need to speed this rescue attempt up, and ideally towards success."

A tactical officer more than he was security, Patel was known for tactical assessments and quick calculations. His parents had tried to sway him away from Starfleet Academy and push him towards the safety of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but his courage and bravado had put him through Starfleet. "Klingons aren't the best engineers, but they will get those shields repaired sooner rather than later. If they bring shields back up, we'll be stuck here."

"Our Engineer is one of the best." Kormoth interjected. "He's also on our side so it will take a while but yes...they will fix it." The lift doors opened just as a nurse walked out. "Keep it open!" She didn't question. She stepped back holding a hand. "Go! Kormoth yelled."

Firing a few rounds from her phaser K’Var was making sure the rest of the away team made it to the extraction site. As the Caitian started running toward the doors she could hear Klingon warriors behind her. She could also hear blasts from those Klingon warriors weapons hitting the sides of the corridor, but luckily not her.

Her phaser in one paw and communicator in the other K’Var yelled “Arcadia initiate transport.” As the transporter initiated a look of pain flashed over the security chiefs face, her eyes grew larger and you could see the fear in the felines faces as the air left her lungs. Once the transporter sequence was complete that same scared look remained on K’Var’s face before she feel to her knees gasping for breath and then flat on her face. A puddle of blood starting to pool on the transporter pad and a Klingon dagger sticking from Lieutenant K’Var’s back.

As the Arcadia Doctor got to work with the teams that were standing by Kormoth saw a distinguished looking man standing off to the side. Sabastian, who was still partially conscious looked over too. "C...Captain." Sabastian gurgled out. "A...asylum for Kormoth." He managed to say before he passed out cold.

Kormoth swore as a medical team rushed aboard. He was now face to face with the CO of the Arcadia. "I suggest the ship run. There are three battle cruisers heading here and it will be what my idiot people call a glorious fight."

Captain Bill Abernathy watched in horror, but kept himself composed. He had seen wounded. He seen dead. He had been to battles and survived war firsthand. Lieutenant K'Var's wound was severe, but he knew her prognosis was better aboard the Arcadia than were she left behind on the Klingon battlecruiser.

Asylum Bill scoffed. "Your idiot people will arrive and receive no such glory," Captain Abernathy stated. "The Federation cavalry is arriving. The Klingon barbarians will be met with the swift phasers of justice, but I do not intend on sticking around to see that."

Abernathy opened a communicator with a flick of his wrist. "Abernathy to bridge. Helm, set a course for the nearest Federation Starbase. Maximum Warp. Have communications information them we need medical on stand by."

The starship was quickly powering engines and routing to the Starbase. "Asylum granted. For now. If any of my crew die, it will be revoked out the nearest airlock."

Kormoth gave a nod.
