Mission: Blade of Deceit
ON:
Delix sat in the mess hall making his way through the sandwich. Sabastian had woken up and they had talked long into the night so he needed food and coffee. He had work to do and then he would return to Sabastian. He was so lost in his mind and his ideas that he didn't see the counselor approach.
“Good Morning Delix” Lanna smiled warmly as she walked over, she was carrying a ginger tea and a light morning snack though she looked a little peaky thanks to morning sickness. “Do you mind if I join you?”
Delix wiped his hands and stood pulling out a chair for her. "Please." He studied her. "Feeling a little off?"
“Very off” Lanna nodded. “The joys of morning sickness. People swear by ginger tea and biscuits, they kind of worked when I was expecting my son but no two pregnancies are the same, or so I’m told.”
"Try mint in the morning and then after lunch and dinner. Will keep things a bit more level." He said smiling.
“I’ll do that, thank you for the advice” Lanna smiled warmly as she got comfortable before sipping her tea. “How is Sabastian?”
"He woke late last night. We...spent the night talking." His face twitched a little as he said the next part. "Then the Carbon Copy showed up and I left before I could...be unkind."
“Ahh you mean Poe” Lanna nodded. “He’s a very sensitive person, do please try and be kind to him. He was the one who saved Sabastian so he deserves some respect.”
"Yes and that is why I left. Much like Zai the copy has woven his magic over Sabastian. It's manipulation and I will not allow it. Hopefully he will think about what happened the last time he failed to listen to me."
“All I ask is you give Poe a chance, don’t let your opinion of Zai rub off onto others.” Lanna added, she had to admit she liked Poe. “Perhaps I get myself a little too involved in the welfare of my patients sometimes, but if it helps then so be it.”
He shrugged. "Any good counselor does. It means they are seeing their patience as more then numbers." He sighed. "I don't per se have anything against him but I lost Sabastian once and I won't again."
“I think that is Sabastian’s choice, don’t you?” Lanna gave Delix a curious look. “He’s a grown man who can make his own decisions.”
He snorted. "He's proven otherwise." He grinned. "The first time I met him he almost had himself in quite a pickle."
“May I ask what kind of pickle?” Lanna asked curiously.
Delix flushed. "That is a long story and a very...personal one. One he should tell if he wants." He sighed as they finished eating. "Will you accompany me to see him?"
Lanna nodded. “I’d like that.” She sipped her ginger tea, then ate some of her biscuits.

Delix and Lanna walked in. Sabastian was seated on the bio bed staring off into nothingness. His eyes landed on Delix and he smiled. "I'm sorry Del. I should have listened about Zai, you're right. I was horrible to you and threw you aside for him and I have regretted it. I did try to find you to apologize when I found out..."
Del held up a hand. "It is forgotten pending you do not fall pray to old habits."
A wash of pained and regret and uncertainty washed over Sabastian. "You're right. I'll stay away from Poe."
Del smiled. "Good man." He walked over placed a gentle kiss on top of Sabastian's head. "I'll let the counselor keep you company. I have to get back to Engineering. Let me handle making sure Zai Jr. Stays out of Engineering."
Sabastian gave a nod. He wasn't going to make the mistake he did once. He watched Del go feeling a mix of sadness at his decision to stay away from Poe and need for Del's forgiveness.
Lanna watched Delix go before she sat down at Sabastian’s bedside. “Sabastian are you sure about Poe? I sensed your guilt, but I also sensed your sadness at staying away. Don’t make a mistake that you’re going to regret even more,”
He sighed. "I already regret Zai. What I said to Del because I believed Zai...then when I found out Zai lied I tried to reach out but I hurt him so much. All he wanted was to keep me safe." He paused. "I could always sense his feelings and I did care for him but the way I threw him aside for Zai..." He shook his head. "No. I won't hurt him again. If that means staying away from Poe that's what the cost is and I will pay it."
“What about Poe? Have you thought about how he will feel?” Lanna asked wanting to give Sabastian a chance to see it from another point of view. “Don’t ever towards Delix because you feel guilty, in the long run you’ll regret it.”
"Delix and I... met in an usual manner but we met when I had given up on Zai and we started to form a bond and then I threw him aside for Zai. Through out all this he stayed loyal to me. Now, being in his presence I can see how much he feels for me. Poe...is young and while I am fond of him I can't toss Del aside but I can maybe try to get them to be friends."
Lanna nodded. “Now that would be a good idea. Delix has nothing but distrust for Poe right now, I’d like to see them on a level playing field at least.”
He sighed. "It's not Poe. It's me. He's....possessive but not in a bad way. I can tell he's never stopped loving me."
Lanna nodded. “I can see my calendar being very full once Poe is told about your decision. Just be gentle okay?”
He gave a nod. "I will." He sighed. "How long until I can leave this place?"
“Until the doctor says so” Lanna added with a wry smile. “When you do I want to see you in my office for a counselling session. I suggest you take it seriously because your getting back to work depends on it.”
He shrugged. "Not my first time getting caught by the Klingons...maybe the first time I got this busted up but I'm a big boy."
Lanna grinned. “Of that I’ve no doubt. I just need to be sure that you’re ready to return to duty. I’ll do everything I can to get you back to it, I promise.”
He studied her. He was still thinking of how she and the captain had removed him from duty as XO. "Back to being Chief Engineer I guess and figuring out if I want to stay here when I am not XO."
“That’s not my decision to make right now, I may have made an error in judgement before I won’t do it again. Besides I like being your friend.” Lanna smiled.
He gave a nod. "Will you look after Poe?"
Lanna nodded. “You bet I will. Counsellor’s aren’t supposed to get emotionally involved with their patients but I’m afraid I do. I don’t see how you can properly look after someone without caring about the outcome. I like Poe, I don’t want to see him suffering.”
"Me either. I hope I can get Del and him to at least be friends."
“I don’t think it’s going to be easy Sabastian, the minute Poe learns about your decision his world is going to come crashing down. I just hope I’ll be able to help him through it.” Lanna answered honestly.
He sighed. This was too much for him. Too overwhelming right now. "I think I was better off on the Klingon ship."
“Definitely not” Lanna smiled. “You definitely have an interesting love life Sabastian, it keeps me on my toes.” She stood ready to leave. “Get some rest, we’ll work it out.”
"Counselor can I ask a favour?"
Lanna nodded. “By all means.”
"The Klingon that came aboard with me, the doctor...can you check on him. He's...a friend, an ex lover and he risked everything to keep me alive and now that he's asked for asylum...he's going to be going through a lot."
“Another ex lover?” Lanna gave Sab a wry smile. “Of course I will. Any tips on dealing with him? Klingons are not the easiest patients.”
"This one is. He's ... gentle and kind." He sighed. "Remind me to tell you about the year I took leave in. I spent the year in a most unusual way and that's where we met. A Klingon reading poetry it was...a most fascinating sight. We met on Xanthan and it was a long time ago. I will let him tell you the story. He tells it better."
Lanna grinned. “Okay then I’ll look forward to that.”
