Mission: Forgotten Wounds

ON:

Poe headed down to security having finished his medical and Counseling sessions. He had yet to see the Coms officers but he wanted to get his tactical tests done first. This was, for the most part, turning out to be a good day.

It didn't take him long to get to the holodeck where the Tactical officer was waiting for him. He entered smiling. "Hello! I'm here for my phaser tests!"

“Greetings” K’Var gave a nod with her greeting, her hands folded behind her back. She stood facing the new Science Officer “as you started you are here for phaser testing. You will be required to check off on standard side arms. You are required to hit the target to score a point.” Lieutenant K’Var knew that was probably obvious.

"In all honestly not my favorite thing since I'm more of a lover and not a fighter but I love a challenge!"

“Well one must be prepared Lieutenant Poe” K’Var said while moving to the side and pressing a command into a wall console. “The challenge” she said with a toothy smile on her Caitian face “Will begin when you draw your weapon. Do you have any last questions or concerns?”

"Oh no. I'm used to this. Let's give it a go!"

Pressing a command in the simulation would begin in just a few seconds “thirty seconds.”

Poe, while he didn't like this, was good with a phaser. When he started his focus never waivered and in the end he'd only missed one target. The simulation gave two beeps that it was over and he straightened. "Awwwww missed one."

“Very well done, Lieutenant” the security chief was rather impressed. “In fact that’s a better score than many of the crew on this very vessel” K’Var gave a wide smile as she entered the scores and signed off on Poe’s phaser testing.

Poe grinned. "Well just cause I don't like these things doesn't mean I don't have to be good with them." He thought a moment and then said, "Can I ask you something?"

Giving a quick nod the Caitian folded her hands behind her back “of course.”

"Can I ask a favor actually....I um...am not good at hand to hand. Is there like a class on this ship?"

“There are, however I do not have any scheduled at this time.” She thought about the request for a moment “I will make that a priority and in the mean time I can offer to do some one on one training with you mister Poe.”

He smiled. "That would be amazing! I'm....really not good at hand to hand."

“Perhaps you will soon be a better hand to hand combatant.” The security chief smiled “when do you have free time to start your training?”

"Anytime. I have a meeting with the Chief Engineer tomorrow for some probe upgrades but other then that I am free."

“This extra training should not interfere with your duties or shifts. Once I get classes scheduled I will put you in a spot and official training will be approved by the first officer and will only be canceled if there is a more pressing matter.” The Lieutenant started walking around the room some, sort of sizing Poe up. “Show me what you do know , Lieutenant.”

"Ah I see you wish a comedic demonstration." He sighed. "Alright. I'll give it my best." He took a fighting stance and as he executed a side kick he toppled to the floor living up to his nickname. "I...um...have bad coordination."

“Nothing comedic about your survival, Lieutenant” she offered a hand to help him up. “I will help you. It may take time, practice and patience, but we will get you there.”

He accepted her hand and smiled. "I'm ready to learn. Anything is better then having to keep falling."

“I recommend stretching before our training sessions” K’Var wanted to get her fellow officer all the help she could. “Do you have an exercise routine” she was attempting to learn about Poe so she could plan the best training for the young man with purple eyes.

"Well...I do the stationary bike and treadmill in the rec center and I kind of look at the pool. I don't swim but I feel I get a work out just watching others swim."

“I do not believe it works that way, unfortunately” K’Var added quickly and with a smile. “I do believe that it is important to be able to defend yourself. I’d like you to do a series of stretches before we train, which I will send you information on. If you would rather do it with me that is acceptable as well.”

Lieutenant K’Var smiled “react” was the only word to come out of her mouth before she started toward the science Officer. You often had no warning that a fight was about to happen so you had to try and be as prepared as possible.

He gave a little squeak and then ducked to her right ending up behind her. "What was that?"

“Just testing your reaction” K’Var gave a slight nod “training before our shift tomorrow.”

He sighed. "I guess so. I could use all the training I can get." He smiled. "Thanks again Lieutenant. See you tomorrow."

“Very well” Lieutenant K’Var watched the Science Officer exit the range. Thinking to her self about the best way to go about training Aiden. He was not the most experienced in close quarters combat, which was probably a good thing. However it was now her duty to make sure he got better at it.
