Mission:
Shore Leave - Starbase 1
Location: Baciami's Quarters
ON:
Adrianna didn't go to the memorial. Vance had, but Adrianna could not handle it. She would mourn in her own way later. She needed one thing at a time. Instead, she sat in their quarters, alone and nursing a glass of something. She stared out of the window, unfocused and mind wandering about nothing in particular. She just felt numb.
Fang had just got cleared by station medical. He had to grab a few things and then Kelley and he would be off but he needed to see one person before they left. He found his way to Adrianna's quarters understanding, now, why she wasn't there at the memorial. Thankfully she wasn't cause she would have helped Sab take him out.
Fang winced as his sore and just mended ribs were voicing a protest. His face looked purple and swollen but it would pass. Sighing he rang the chime.
Adrianna blinked out of her trance like state and shouted 'enter'. Looking over, she saw Fang, "merde, was the memorial that good? Certainly put the fun in funeral."
"Sabastian ... had some opinions. Frankly my fault I should have known he wasn't familiar with Cappellan Customs and well...I think one of them was a step too far."
Adrianna raised a brow, "what did you do? A torpedo salute with live sacrifices?"
"Torpedo then phasers to destroy it. Viking Funeral is the closest to it."
Adrianna cussed under her breath, shaking her head. She wasn't mad, Ade was numb. "Why did you come here? Need the grappa to ease the pain?"
"I came to say goodbye. Kelly and I are leaving and I came to make sure you're okay. My parents told me about yours." He paused. "Adrianna I'm so sorry."
Ade nodded at him leaving. "You'll be missed, but a life of love is worth every risk." She chose not to address the other comment about her parents.
"How are you doing?" He walked over and sat by her.
Adrianna topped up her glass and shrugged, "still in shock, I guess. But I'll be ok. I need to just bury myself in work for a little while."
"You do realize that only works so far. Trust me if the new CO finds out you'll be yanked into counseling. Go to Lanna."
"I know what I'm doing, Fang," Adrianna warned, "I will be ok. This is how I deal with this."
"I know but the new CO is not Kelly. Things are...going to change here."
Adrianna raised a brow, "I'll be fine. I've been trained in how to hide things. Emotions from empathy to contraband from Fleet whilst undercover, I'm a genius." She paused, "have they announced the new captain yet? I've not seen anything come through."
"They have. All crew should now have information on the new Captain. There will be a briefing soon."
Adrianna nodded, "got any hints?" Clearly she was phishing, wanting to be able to do the research.
"Not sure. I stopped being XO. You'll have to go to Sabastian for that."
"Yes, but-- to be blunt-- you're screwing the ex-CO. You may have known something," Ade shrugged, grinning.
Fang coughed. "Wow way to blunt things." He grinned. "I'm gonna miss you."
Ade smirked, "would you prefer that I say 'making love to', because it sounds creepy."
He snorted. "One track mind Adri, one track mind."
Adrianna shrugged, feigning innocence, "that may be so, but see how easily I got you to change the topic from my parents."
He snorted. "I really will miss you." He opened his arms for a hug. "One last hug?"
Adrianna nodded, standing up and walking around. She wasn't a hug kind of person, but she didn't mind. It felt like she was losing a lot-- her parents and Zai, forever, and now some friends. It hurt. Nonetheless, Are briefly hugged him, "do not be a stranger."
"I'll call you everyday. I only work half days the rest of the time I'm a house husband."
"Don't get bored," Adrianna chuckled, "not sure I could cope with being a house wife. My mother thrived in the role, but I like working too much. And don't call me 'every' day. Live your life."
He smiled. "Oh I will live. Away from the fleet." He sighed. "So I have something to deliver to you. It was found...on Zai's body but it was addressed to you." He held out an envelope.
Adrianna looked up puzzled, and took the envelope. "Thank you, I'll read it once you go."
Fang gave a nod. "Take care of yourself Adri." He gave her shoulder a squeeze. "If you need to talk I'm here."
"I won't, but thank you all the same," she smiled. Adrianna waited for him to leave before reading it.
Note:
Dear Adrianna,
If you are reading this note then I am gone... well my body is. The spirit lives on.
I made a choice to save the life of the man I love. Me for him and I don't regret it. He's going to need you, Adrianna. Sabastian is...going to have a hard time with this. I will try to help if I can...I will send someone to help. It's... a lot to explain. It turns out I am half Capellan and half ... something else. I won't be able to come by and see you. While the body is no longer I am still around in spirit of sorts.
Please watch over him. He will fall apart and try to hide it. Look for the person I sent, you will, I have no doubt, know how it is. But please take care of Sabastian.
Thank you. Thank you for being my friend and know that I will try to make contact in my new form if I can. I will miss you. You are amazing. Always remember that.
Clearing her throat, willing tears not to fall, Adrianna tucked the note away under her and Vance's wedding picture. She was far from ok, but for Zai, she'd do anything. He may have been annoying, but he was her friend and he kept her secrets, not to mention saved Vance's life and helped to being him back. She touched the note with her fingertips, "I need the strength to want to look, first, my friend."
