| Physical Description | Despite her polished appearance, there is something intimidating about her presence. Marlene is a striking, curvaceous woman with a polished and somewhat old-fashioned sense of style. She has dark brunette hair, usually arranged in an elaborate beehive updo, with a few loose curls framing her face. Her appearance is meticulously maintained, even while on duty. She has expressive brown eyes, carefully applied makeup, and a fondness for elegant earrings and other small personal accessories. Her uniform is always immaculate. She carries herself with an almost theatrical dignity, giving the impression that she is perpetually aware that someone is watching. |

| General Overview | Beneath her warmth is a very stern woman. Marlene does not tolerate incompetence, disrespect, or unnecessary drama. She rarely needs to raise her voice. A long silence, a raised eyebrow, and a quiet "Really, Lieutenant?" are usually enough. She has very little patience for officers who believe their rank makes them more important than the people who keep the ship functioning. Marlene is a combination of social intelligence, administrative competence, and quiet intimidation. She is exceptionally personable and possesses a sharp, sometimes wicked sense of humor. She enjoys gossip, but not malicious gossip, necessarily, but she has an almost supernatural ability to know what is happening aboard the Arcadia. If two officers are having an affair, someone has been sneaking into the senior officers' lounge after hours, or the captain has quietly changed the duty roster, Marlene probably already knows. |
| Personal History | Marlene Ponsonby's history is difficult to pin down, particularly where her age is concerned. As a Lanthanite, she has lived long enough to have witnessed an extraordinary amount of Federation history. During the Second Great War, she served with the Auxiliary Territorial Service, where she gained extensive experience in military administration, personnel management, and logistics. She eventually entered Starfleet service and built a reputation as an exceptionally capable administrator and personal aide. Her experience, discretion, and uncanny ability to keep track of people and information eventually earned her the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Prior to her assignment aboard the USS Arcadia, Marlene served as the personal assistant to a Starfleet Commodore. She performed the position exceptionally well, but apparently became rather unpopular with the Commodore's wife, who found Marlene's personality and close proximity to her husband less than appealing. Following a particularly awkward series of social circumstances, Marlene was conveniently reassigned. Starfleet Command subsequently transferred her to the Arcadia, effectively "gifting" Captain William Abernathy one of the most capable administrative officers in Starfleet. Marlene considers the reassignment a promotion in everything but title—and has settled comfortably into her new position as the Arcadia's Chief Yeoman. |
